I reckon your right, I washed the tank out before I installed it. Seems I didn't do a good enough job. Just bought a magnet to put into the tank after I blow it all out. I can feel metal fines on the bottom of the tank.

Well, yes kinda, I had a slight mishap when lowering the tank. It still had about 30 litres of fuel in it, and I couldn't get the plug undone of the float. The plan was to lower the tank enough to get a better grip on it. Bloody thing slid off the jack and dropped pulling out the two wires from the harness somewhere. I found where they have come from eventually and started to pull the plug apart with glasses on and a magnifying glass. Got it apart but the crimping is so tight and my patience have gone so I'm just going to bypass the plug and put some bullet connectors in.

Kyle, came across this article as I have heard of similar things with the 4.2 TD Patrols. They have a tiny filter in their injector pumps that blocks. Obviously the V8 does not but apparently can suffer from an air lock at the injector pump. Their are two allen key bolts on the underside that are required to be loosened to release this air lock. Can't tell you too much more as I haven't done it. Check out this link to another forum
Hope it helps.

Would have liked a more obvious result kyle but it might have been enough. See how it goes when its back together

Cheers Vege, it's all back together and running now. I've put the magnet in next to the pick up.

Glad it's all finished. Did you put the second filter back in? Hopefully no more problems, it's not something you'd want to go through again.

No, I'll have to reconnect it tomorrow. I'm just hoping it's resolved now once and for all.

That didn't last long 90 k's into a 120 k round trip on the freeway and the filter warning light has come again. This filter has 460k's. I'm really over it at the moment. Parking it up and dust the bike off.

Your truck is still under warranty right? Might as well try taking it back to Toyota to fix and explain what lengths you've already gone to in order to try and fix it. It could be as simple as a dud sensor in the factory filter giving a false reading.

Just had a phone call back from WE They suggested the same as you Lachlan. Actually taking it to a dealer who deals more with rural owners rather than the local place.

Seems strange Kyle, the light I assume is using differential pressure either side of the filter. But then you had the power loss. I hope it's as simple as two problems, one you've fixed by cleaning the tank and the light is a separate issue. Will be interesting to see what they find.

Dropped the cruiser off to Toyota this morning and had a conversation with the head mechanic. First thing he said was it could the fuel management filter, which I said had been there for 35000k's without an issue. Second was my extra fuel tank and plumbing. Which had been there for 30000k's no issue. Local diesel, but I'm only running BP, which he agreed was good. Last comment was the sensor can be sensitive and didn't seem interested when I suggested it may need to be replaced. So I'm not holding my breath at this time.

I had the cruiser out for a run, this was with a new filter but not the sensor replaced. It went well on the highway for about 40 k's and then the power issue started again. This time it would start to loose power at 100kph. It went back in yesterday to have the sensor replaced, and the mechanic showed me a hose clamp that was stripped going into the fuel filter. I hadn't come across it before. Possibly there might be air entering into the filter. I'll get her out in the next week or so and see how it goes.
It's not too often I've walked away from a dealership and felt satisfied that the staff were doing their utmost to help you. I can say this about the Toyota service department at Camden.
