Custom ute canopy

Postby russell.veivers on Thu Sep 24, 2015 9:50 pm

Howdy chaps. I'm in the process of design and build for custom ute canopy on my 2013 dual cab cruiser. I'm getting it built to suit my work needs and wondering what prices people paid so I know roughly what to expect. Pictures would be mint too so I can change or get any new ideas. Thanks heaps.

Nice set of slicks you're running there earl haha. So looks like around the 3 - 3.5 grand mark. Thanks for sharing, would love to see some more ideas if any one else has some pics to add

Looking the goods. Are you going to canvas or cover it in sheet metal?

I'll be canvas covering as i need the railing for the pro roo shooting and canvas comes off out in the field. Have a dry box built in for when the canvas off.

Finally got the cage section finished after so much mucking about and working... This side had spot for dogs or chemical drums etc, top section is a shelf for recovery gear, rifles, max trax, what ever can fit, I have since fitted the checker plate where it looks open. The back is still quite roomy and left the top open so people can stand in back or chicks can pole dance lol. All sides are gas strut gull wing doors which go down to drop sides. Which have locks inside so can't pull down drop sides with the top section locks on. Canopy is getting fabricated now.

Dry box will house an inverter and charge equipment between jobs, lap tops, phones, what ever and will put tools and other junk in there. Was thinking whether to make a roll out table top to use for cooking bbq or something?

Cage is now covered! Gone with PVC as can't pressure wash canvas, blood (from pro roo shooting) ruins canvas, and chemicals from the spraying I do will destroy canvas.

Asked for the canopy length to go right down to bottom of tray, front half stays where it is and back rolls up so people can shoot out the back if they so desire and for hanging and field dressing roo's. All drop sides lock from inside and outside and the gull wing cage doors have locks for security.

Further down the track awnings will attach to the open doors for camping.

Don't mind the scribble covering advertising.

So I went for an Enerdrive battery isolator (mainly because of cost), semi-tucked away above wheel arch near opening under hood (if that makes sense), cable runs through firewall in cab and out the back...

Image

To the second battery (temp mounting so looks a little red-neck but works well). When I eventually get the stereo sorted I will see about that getting power off that cable running through firewall so power comes off the spare battery and never drains the starter.

Second battery has Anderson plug fitting off terminals and also powers 2000wat Elinz inverter, battery charger, accessory sockets and power board, plus a fuse box in there to add other things. Lights are here but out of time to install them.

Image

I put some Tactix storage boxes which clip in well, have lids and I can quickly and easily take them out and swap with containers for work, camping or other accessories.
